Land west of Imberhorne Lane, East Grinstead

Welbeck Land has submitted a planning application to Mid Sussex District Council for new homes and community facilities – including new sports facilities for Imberhorne School – on land west of Imberhorne Lane, East Grinstead.  Take a look around this website to find out more about the proposals.

 

 

Welbeck Land has been engaging with East Grinstead Town Council and Mid Sussex District Council for many years regarding the future of this land, during the preparation of the Town Council’s ‘Neighbourhood Plan’, the District Council’s ‘District Plan’ and most recently during the preparation of the District Council’s ‘Site Allocations Development Plan Document’:

  • The East Grinstead Neighbourhood Plan – adopted in November 2016 – does not allocate the land west of Imberhorne Lane for development but sets out an objective to consolidate the two parts of Imberhorne School – the Lower School and the Upper School – on the present Upper School site.
  • The Mid Sussex District Plan – adopted in March 2018 – stipulates that some new homes should be provided at East Grinstead in the coming years up to 2031, but does not identify specific sites where these homes should be located.
  • The Mid Sussex Site Allocations Development Plan Document – adopted in June 2022 – allocates a number of sites for development to help meet the housing need identified in the District Plan. This includes the land west of Imberhorne Lane, which is allocated in the Development Plan Document for new homes and community facilities, including new sports facilities for Imberhorne School available to the wider community.

With the land west of Imberhorne Lane officially allocated for development and the principle of development on this site accepted by Mid Sussex District Council, and following a period of public consultation in the autumn of 2022, Welbeck Land submitted a planning application to Mid Sussex District Council in October 2023.
